In the lucky last race we saw Grey Northern step back out to the mile in BM58 grade where she was simply too classy for them. She jumped well from the suitable barrier, with jockey Matthew Cartwright electing to take a sit midfield and she was able to relax really nicely which had been a problem of hers in previous outings. Rounding the bound she was a touch green and wayward, however when she got clear galloping room she was able to really launch down the outside and reel in the leader. It was eventually quite a soft win on the line to the cheers of many happy First Light Racing owners.
Wet tracks and bad barriers have plagued this filly’s preparation and it was great to send her to the paddock on a high whilst we look forward to bringing her back for the summer where she should be able to continue her way through the grades and reach 2000m racing.
Congratulations again to the First Light Racing team who have a lot to look forward to with this slow maturing filly. A special mention to our Jeanne, our wonderful strapper all the way from France who strapped her first winner – a great reward for all of her hard work since joining the team.
