Coming off a disastrous last start run at Moonee Valley, stable stalwart Squami had a point to prove when he lined up in the BM64 1300m at Cranbourne. With class jockey Daniel Stackhouse engaged, Squami didn’t miss the kick this time and nestled in nicely behind the leader who set a strong speed. Squami was forced to cart up the rest of the field as Jillette upped the ante at the 600m and looked to kick away. Stacky timed his run perfectly and always looked to have the leaders measure as Squami produced a strong finish to overhaul the leader and eased up on the line.
What a fun horse this bloke has been for connections, notching up his fourth win and pocketing more than $177k in prizemoney after being purchased at the Tasmania Magic Millions sale for a bargain basement price. He’s a tough horse who doesn’t know how to run a bad race and the team at SZR just love him.
The consistent gelding has earned a crack at city racing and will head to Sandown on the 29th April to contest the 1300m BM70.
