Description
What an encouraging start the high class Castelvecchio – son of the multiple Gr.1 winner Dundeel – has made to his stud career; the Gr.1 Rosehill Guineas and Gr.1 Champagne Stakes winner well and truly off and running with his first two crops.
Australia’s third leading second season sire behind Too Darn Hot and Blue Point, Castelvecchio has already been well represented by 21 winners with four extra smart stakes winners including last spring’s Gr.1 Spring Champion Stakes winner El Castello.
Double Market, Aeliana and Verona Rose are also promising young horses by Castelvecchio who has another three stakes performed horses… meaning that a third of his first winners have earned black-type.
This flashy bay with a look of the Sadler’s Wells sire line from which he hails is the final foal produced by the imported mare Street ‘Em Sheila who has done such a good job with seven of her eight foals to race being winners.
Amongst that tally is the Listed winner Office Bearer and the city winners Thelittleracketeer, Sheilarized and General Assembly; between them the winners of 27 races.
And there is more to come with Street ‘Em Sheila’s second last foal Street Lark – also by Castelvecchio – looking good recording a recent Pakenham jump-out victory.
Street ‘Em Sheila is a daughter of the great influence Street Cry. Best known in this part of the world as sire of the superstar Winx and in the United States as the sire of Zenyatta, he is well and truly doing the job as a broodmare sire with his daughters already producing 63 stakes winners.
There are 15 Gr.1 winners amongst that tally including the globe-trotting star Romantic Warrior and the in-form gallopers Treasurethe Moment, Broadsiding and Tom Kitten.
Street ‘Em Sheila has a steady line of stakes performing mares as her ancestors – her first four dams all being stakes winners; something not often seen!
Her dam Super Sheila won the Gr.1 Turffontein Sprint whilst her grandam Keep In Step, her third dam Mia Pola and her fourth dam Polamia were all Listed winners in France.
And what a great job those mares have done at stud with other members of this internationally prolific family including the Gr.1 gallopers Metamorphose, Sulamani, Dream Well, Tuzla, Right Away, Grey Dawn, Tryptic and Sly Pola as well as the high class stallion Green Dancer.
Further back this is the same Little Agnes family that produced Zabeel – dam sire of Castelvecchio’s sire Dundeel.
There are further lovely line-breeding patterns in this colt’s pedigree including a cross of the high class broodmare Rosy Legend via her Epsom Derby winning son Dante and her Irish Derby winning son Sayajirao. Castelvecchio has already fared well this cross – his dual Gr.3 winning daughter Aeliana (who went so close in the recent Gr.1 Rosehill Guineas) bred this way.
