HORSE PROFILE

A horse that really caught Simon’s eye during inspections, this Toronado colt looks to have plenty of scope and athleticism. He is a well-developed colt that looks like he will get up and running early.

We know all about the Toronado’s, having trained Shesallshenanigans to win the $1 million Vobis Showdown, while we have also enjoyed success with multiple city winner Princess Que.

Toronado has continued to be a great source of winners and has produced a number of horses that have taken advantage of Vobis prizemoney races – something we will be looking to target with this colt.

 

PEDIGREE ANALYSIS

By the seven time Group One winner High Chaparral who did such a great job at stud – especially in Australia where 14 of his 21 Group One winners raced, Toronado won six of his 12 starts including the Gr.1 Sussex Stakes at Goodwood and the prestigious Gr.1 Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot. Racing against only the best of his era, he had not only a dazzling turn of foot but also great determination.

And what a terrific stallion he has proved to be with six Gr.1 winners amongst his 48 stakes winners with five of those proving their worth in the southern hemisphere where his winners-to-runners strike rate is an excellent 69.8%. Strong yet elegant, a trademark of the breed, this colt is out of the $800,000 yearling purchase Fulfilling (daughter of Japanese Horse Of The Year Lord Kanaloa) whose first foal Falling Sun is a last start winner. Not making it to the track despite an easy Newcastle trial victory, Fulfilling is out of a 3/4 sister to the dual Group winner Peer Gynt from a high class Japanese family whose members include the Group winners June Take and Mikki Swallow.

Fulfilling’s US based Gr.3 winning grandam Devil’s Bride is one of the nine winners produced by the multiple stakes winner Satan’s Pride – dam of another two stakes winners and ancestress of a further 15. Of the 58 Toronado winners (from 80 runners – a 72.5% strike rate) out of mares carrying a Try My Best (a feature of Lord Kanaloa’s pedigree) eight are stakes winners including his local Gr.1 winner Masked Crusader; noting that Try My Best’s full brother El Gran Senor is the dam sire of Toronado’s dam sire Grand Slam.

Toronado also loves strains of Nureyev (also in Lord Kanaloa) whose 3/4 brother Sadler’s Wells (the great mare Special duplicated) is High Chaparral’s sire… Toronado’s Hong Kong star Victor The Winner is bred this way as are another 12 of his stakes winners.
